A SKU is one style, in one color, in one size — the thing a customer adds to a cart. Multiply those three together and a modest-looking collection turns into hundreds of them, each holding almost no stock. This shows you the number before you commit the money.

Size split is a standard retail curve — 5% XS, 15% S, 30% M, 30% L, 15% XL, 5% XXL. Adjust for your audience; menswear skews larger, and a fitted womenswear line skews smaller. Healthy depth here is 12+ units per SKU, which is a judgement call rather than a law: it's roughly the point where the middle sizes last long enough to learn anything from.
