Factories already listed
An unclaimed listing still counts.
Most US factories are already in the directory as unclaimed listings — we built those from public information, and the factory has never been involved. They can still claim it, and your code still applies: they enter it on the signup form the same way.
If a factory already has reviews, that's usually the strongest reason for them to claim — it's how they get to respond publicly.
Getting paid
The tax form part, briefly.
When does the clock start?
When the factory you referred completes their first month and that payment clears. We'll email you the same week. Nothing is owed on a signup alone, because founding factories get 90 days free before anything is charged.
What do you need from me?
Two things, both in a reply to that email: a completed tax form, and the email address or phone number attached to your Zelle. Just reply to the thread with the form attached — no subject line to remember and nothing to hunt for later.
Which form?
If you're a US person, it's a W-9 — an EIN is fine if you have one, you don't have to give a Social Security number if your business has its own. If you're outside the US, it's a W-8BEN instead, and that's the same form no matter which country you're in. Filling it in takes about two minutes either way.
I have an LLC — can I use that instead?
Yes, and most people should. Put the LLC on the W-9 with its EIN and you never hand over a Social Security number. One wrinkle worth getting right: if it's a single-member LLC, the IRS wants your own name on line 1 and the LLC's name on line 2. Multi-member LLCs, and LLCs taxed as a corporation, go on line 1 themselves. Either way the name on the form should match whoever is actually receiving the payment — a mismatch between the name and the tax number is the one thing that causes problems. Not sure which you are? Your accountant will know in about ten seconds.
Why do you need it at all?
Because this is a payment from a business to a person, and the IRS requires the paperwork once someone crosses $600 in a year. Collecting it at payout rather than at signup means most people never have to think about it.
How does the money actually arrive?
Zelle, from SÔZ Studios — that's the company behind Runsheet, so don't be thrown when the sender doesn't say Runsheet on it. No fees on either side, usually same day. Outside the US, Zelle and Venmo are both US-bank-only, so it goes by Wise instead — a couple of days, and we cover the transfer fee.
Is there a cap?
No. Refer five factories, get paid five times.
The details
What has to be true.
The factory enters your code at signup. We can't apply it after the fact, so send your link rather than mentioning Runsheet in passing.
One fee per factory. If two codes ever land on the same factory, the first one recorded wins.
Runsheet lists US manufacturers only, so the factory has to be one. Where you live doesn't matter — you can refer an LA factory from anywhere.
No fee on a factory you own, work for, or are otherwise connected to.
The fee is paid after their first month's payment clears — not on signup, and not if that payment is refunded or reversed.
Payment goes out within 10 business days of receiving your tax form and payment details.
You're responsible for any taxes owed on referral fees. We issue a 1099 where the law requires one.
Reviews are never paid for. The fee is for a factory claiming its profile — nothing else. We don't pay for reviews, don't pay to influence a rating, and don't remove reviews for money. That rule is what makes the directory worth reading.
